FREE GAME DESIGN SUMMER CAMP!

Learn to design your own video games in this FREE game design summer camp through the School of Interactive Arts. Open to current 9th and 10th grade students.

SYEP APPLICATION IS NOW OPEN!

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) application is now OPEN! This program provides paid summer work experiences to young adults ages 14-24 living in one of the Mayor's Action Plan for Neighborhood Safety (MAP) developments at NYCHA (Castle Hill, Patterson, Boulevard, Ingersoll, Brownsville, Van Dyke, Bushwick, Tompkins, Wagner, Polo Grounds, St. Nicholas, Queensbridge, Stapleton, Red Hook, and Butler Houses). Eligible residents have reserved slots with select providers via the MAP to $uccess program. Residents ages 14-24 at Baruch and Addition, Breukelen, Bronx River Houses, Farragut, King Towers, Ravenswood Houses, Throggs Neck Houses, Tilden and West Brighton are eligible for the CareerFIRSTprogram. Residents ages 14-24 living outside of the target developments can still apply for the community SYEP program open to NYC youth and young adults. Apply by April 23!


Step It Up NYC! Join DYCD and our partners on Zoom for dance and step classes at home! Every Wednesday at 3:30PM-4:30PM beginning April 8, 2020.

The Baruch College STEP (Science and Technology Entry Program) Academy is a pre-college program for eligible middle and high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in science, math, and health-related professions.

During our 4 week summer program, students will have the opportunity to explore STEM subjects through online classroom lectures and activities, interactive at-home experiments, and virtual field trips.

When: Mondays through Thursdays - July 6th through July 30th from 10am - 12pm online (with an additional hour for independent study)

Each student will enroll in one course. Brief descriptions are below, find detailed info on website.

  • Environmental Science: Explore the interdependence of Earth’s systems, plant life, wildlife and humans. This course will incorporate current events and issues in science, politics, and society.

  • Mathematics of Engineering: Learn the fundamentals of mathematics used in engineering simple structures. Small purchases will be required. Capstone project will be to build a structurally sound bridge.

  • Introduction to Bioethics: Explore how advances in science and technology impact the future and ethics of medicine. The intent is not to change opinions or perspectives, but rather to strengthen students’ ability to consider, explain, and offer a reasoned defense of their points of view.

  • Research Methods: Study of COVID-19 will be used to learn about research methodology and develop a project related to the impact of the pandemic. The scientific method will be used for students to design their own study- by creating research questions, collecting data, and interpreting their results.

This opportunity is a SCHOLARSHIP and INTERNSHIP opportunity. The Amazon Future Engineer program is a comprehensive childhood-to-career program aimed at increasing access to computer science education for young adults from underserved and underrepresented communities.

The 2021 program will be accepting applications beginning in November 2020

CITY LIMITS: PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIP This is a paid internship opportunity for high school students to work with City Limits, a nonprofit investigative news organization that’s been covering New York for more than 40 years. Interns will be trained in the essential tenets of reporting and news writing, including research, interviewing, investigative techniques, media ethics, story structure, photojournalism and more. They’ll get a chance to meet and hear from guest journalists as well as take field trips to professional newsrooms across the city (these will be conducted virtually, if needed). Participants will spend four weeks working on locally-focused news stories about important New York City issues, with the goal of getting those stories published in City Limits.


The Fellows Program is a visual storytelling course for high school students. Fellowsreceive more than 1,000 hours of immersive, college-level training, learning both the artand business of cinematic storytelling and production training while getting the preparation and guidance to advance their education at top universities.
