Student Expectations

Ø Attend school every day and be on time

Ø Come prepared with books, paper, pencil, materials and assignments

Ø Be respectful to self, peers, and staff

Ø Maintain a positive attitude

Ø Complete homework each evening 

Homework

Ø Homework will be based on what students do not finish in class every day, Monday through Thursday.  This includes at least 20 minutes of reading plus spelling words, math and other assignments not completed in class.  I do not assign homework on the weekends unless a student is behind in his or her work.  Homework for math will be in the form of Here/Home chunking, while everything else will be completed as needed.  There will be time at the end of the day to begin working on homework, so there may be days your child only has reading.

Ø Students are expected to have their planner signed each day.

Ø Homework is due each day. 

Classroom Community

Ø Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules, policies and procedures to help us get along with each other, to learn, and to grow. We also have consequences when rules are not followed or policies and procedures are ignored.

Ø All students are expected to understand and follow Hillsboro Elementary policies and procedures outlined in the student handbook.  Students will be sent to the nurse to call you to request a change of clothes in the event of dress code violations.

Stop!!!! Think!!! Make a Good Choice!!  Be a Model Citizen!

Ø Behavior is tracked using a visual chart.

Ø Chart has four levels and four colors: Green, Yellow, Blue, and Red. 

Ø Each student has a clothes pin with his or her number on it.

Ø Clips are placed depending on the child’s behavior; our goal is to stay on Model Citizen.

Ø Level 1 – Green – Model Citizen!

    Model Citizen!  (where everyone begins the day)

    1  DOJO point awarded at the end of day

Ø Level 2 – Yellow – Make a Good Choice!!

    Make a good choice!! (verbal warning)

    Loss of 2 Dojo points

Ø Level 3 – Blue – Think!!!

   Think!!! (lose recess time, write note, get parent signature)

   Loss of 3 Dojo points

Ø Level 4 – Red- Stop!!!!

    Stop!!!! (student calls parent, set up conference if needed)

    Loss of 4 Dojo points
