8th graders moving on to Century for the 2026-2027 school year!
Students received information in Advisory All About High School at the end of February.
Then, in 8th grade math classes, CHS counselors gave a presentation about the electives and how to us the course selection worksheet. Here is the CHS main info page .
Now, incoming Freshman are pretty much done. CHS builds their schedules. CHS will let families know what those will be as well as share other info over the summer. Mrs. Sabroe will be their counselor all 4 years unless the students. Those counselors are currently the 12th grade counselors because they loop with the students, so the current 12th grade counselors pick up the new 9th graders. They have a lot of 12th grade responsibilities to complete before they can give their full attention to 9th graders, so you can expect communication from them to ramp up over the summer after the 12th graders have graduated.
A Note About Schedule Changes:
An email is the best way to contact your counselor about schedule changes to explain reasoning and get a prompt response. The more specific you are, the better we can understand your concern.
Reasons to request a schedule change:
Schedule changes that Counselors address during the first two weeks of each semester include:
Schedules that are missing periods/classes
Elective Changes that involve Band or AVID (must have parent/principal/teacher conversation and approval)
Scheduling issues that are related to legitimate, documented health-related reason(s)
Other unique/exceptional circumstances related to things like IEPs and Connections support courses.
Reasons NOT to request a schedule change:
We do not change schedules to switch a student’s teacher (Example: Can I have Mr. Wilson for Social Studies instead of Ms. McIntosh? Once you have a teacher, they are yours for the entire school year)
We do not change schedules to reorder a student’s classes (Example: I really don’t want PE 1st period, can I have it 6th period instead?)
We do not change schedules to reorder a student’s electives (Example: Can I have Art 1st semester instead of 2nd semester?)
We do not change schedules to change a student’s lunch (Example: Can I switch to 1st lunch because the early batch of chicken burgers taste better than the ones in 2nd lunch?)
PLEASE (Seriously, we're begging you!) DO NOT ask for these types of changes---especially lunch---this is an opportunity for our kiddos to learn flexibility and to understand that secondary and college level schedules change. Also, lunches are tied to 4th period classes, so "switching lunch" isn't a simple change.
Students will have the chance to take some classes outside of the core classes to explore different interests that can help them explore options for Career Technical Education (CTE) that they will take in High School.
