September 19th, 2024
Thanks to those who attended our first rehearsal for the new season - it was wonderful to make music with you!
Here are some important points from the meeting. Please take a moment to read these and respond with any questions or concerns you may have.
1. Rehearsals will run from 7-8:30. Based on survey results in the Spring, we may extend rehearsals by 15-30 minutes if necessary. This will be communicated to you.
- Please be on time for rehearsals and ready to play at 7.
- Please plan to attend rehearsals weekly. Of course you should stay home if you're ill, but we are noticing that some are attending semi-regularly which can impact sections and the band as a whole, especially around concert times. In short - this is not an "attendance optional" group. If you are not able to commit for the year, please let us know.
2. We presented the expenses for the past two years, and projected expenses for the upcoming season. If you missed this and would like more info, please let me know.
3. Upcoming events:
October 17th: Collaboration with the Canadian Mennonite University Community Band
- 7-8:30; carpools may be arranged
November 30th: Deck the Mall
- Christmas concert at the mall; start thinking about small ensembles; lunch will be provided
February: Clinic during rehearsal with a guest
Mid-April: Spring Concert at the MHV
4. Snack Sign up: To complete for the first and second half of the season - please sign up early so that I'm not bugging you each week ;)
5. Board expansion: We would like to add 2 new members to our SCCB "board"
- One person will take on the role of promotion (making posters, communicating with media, social media, etc.)
- The second person will be a "member at large"
- Both will attend meetings (approx. 4 per year following concerts)
6. Sponsorship: If this is something band members have interest in taking on, please let us know!
** Please take a moment to add your name to the snack sign-up sheet that was attached to the email. **
