 General Class Routine: Kindergarten-2nd grade:

• Read a book together

• Listen- to a short tune and talk about it

• Move- Learn a group game or dance

• Sing- a variety of tunes, patriotic, folk tunes, rounds...

• Play an instrument (shakers, rhythm sticks, hand drums, boomwhackers, tambourines...)

• Move to the beat- beat keeping activity with music

• Starting in 2nd grade, begin decoding rhythmic notation

• Active Listening- listen to a piece of classical music and follow the group activity

• Self assessment, class assessment

General Class Routine: 3rd-6th grade:

• Listen- to a short tune and talk about it

• Cooperative musical movement-learning folk dances, ostinati, and musical games

• Sing- a variety of tunes, patriotic, folk tunes, rounds...

• Play an instrument: 

  • 3rd grade plays recorders

  • 4 plays piano keyboards

  • 5th plays ukuleles 

  • 6th grade plays guitars

• Self assessment, class assessment

• Classical Music Listening

In the music room that looks like:

• Listening quietly with a calm body to short music selections

• Raising our hand if we want to add to the conversation

• Singing with the group during singing time

• Listening to and following instructions for the group games

• Being careful with materials and putting them away when we're done

• Not having things in our mouths like gum while singing and dancing 

• Respecting other's personal space
