Monday:
+We will wrap any Bed Bug Presentations and hand in student evaluation forms.
+Students will fill out a brief science reflection in preparation for Parent Teacher Conferences.
+Introduction to "Keep it Cool" engineering challenge.
In between each MI-Star unit, we will have an engineering challenge that really emphasizes the science and engineering practices outlined in the NexGen Science Standards. For this challenge, students will be given cold water in a plastic cup. Their job is to design and test an apparatus that keeps the water coolest, longest.
Over the course of this week, students will be designing, testing and collecting data on at least 2 different designs.
Students will begin researching ideas of how to keep their water cool, and what products already exist that do this and how they work.
Tuesday:
By the end of today, student groups should have completed the following:
1. Research of existing designs and ideas.
2. Draw out their Individual Design Idea with dimensions
3. Decided on and have drawn out on a computer or plain white paper in detail 2 different TEAM designs.
4. Compiled a list of materials that they will need to bring in (by tomorrow).
Wednesday ---> next Monday
These days are set aside for groups to be building, testing, and collecting data on their designs. Each design should be tested multiple times. Data should be collected throughout each test. Data should be collected in a data table and graphed.
Next Tuesday is COMPETITION DAY!
