Math: Mutliplication and division continue! Unit one will be ended soon. We have learned the three properties: commutative, associative, and distributive. Students continue using pictures, count-bys, and other strategies to figure out the answers. Unit 2 will continue teaching multiplication (6s, 7s, and 8s) while we continue learning new and practicing old strategies.
We started math workshop. This allows me to teach the lessons in small groups. Lessons are adapted to student needs. Please continue working on facts at home. I am giving out lots of pennies to those who fix/finish their fact papers!
Writing: Unit one is writing a narrative. Everyone wrote a personal narrative and realistic fiction story. This week, we will finish revising and begin editing. I hope to start typing these up soon! Yes! In third grade we type our stories!!
Reading: Our second unit is Mystery Clubs! I absolutely love this unit (and so will your children). We will be working as detectives to solve mysteries before the end of the book. We will apply what we learned in unit 1 (questioning, predicting, thinking, and finding the purpose) and learn some new strategies, too. By the end of the unit, your child should have read 4 - 5 mystery books. Please see the list of series we are using below:
Cam Jansen

Boxcar Children
Hardy Boys
Nancy Drew
Hilda Cracks the Case
Wallace and Grace

Word Study: We are learning nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs and how these make up sentences.
SEL:: Feelings Matter (this includes understanding how we feel as our emotions change).
Social Studies: Our first unit is Geography! We will be learning all about where Michigan is located and what it is like living here.
