Safe Practices for Instrumental Music

Band and Orchestra

The following practices will be implemented for all band and orchestra students until further notice.

AIR PURIFICATION

• The instrumental music room is equipped with a HEPA room air purifier.

PHYSICAL DISTANCING

• Distancing of 3 feet, adjusting farther or closer depending on local conditions.

HAND HYGIENE

• Students will practice proper hand hygiene before and after playing any musical instrument. There is a handwashing station set up at the entrance to the music room. Students will wash their hands when entering and exiting the room.

STRING AND PERCUSSION

• MASKS

  • Proper mask-wearing of school-approved face masks at all times

WIND INSTRUMENTS (Woodwind and Brass)

• INSTRUMENT MASKS

  • Every student will be supplied with a new specialty instrument mask appropriate for their instrument, which must be worn at all times when in the music room and when playing their instruments.

• BELL COVERS

  • Every student will be supplied with instrument bell covers used to mitigate aerosols and droplets produced by playing wind instruments.
