Reading is a must for all adults and students. It is especially important for growing readers in the elementary grade levels. According to the Phi Delta Kappan journal and a study of more than 3.4 million students, students who participated in summer reading programs showed no signs of summer reading loss. When students and families stay engaged in learning throughout the summer, learning is not only maintained, it often improves.
We recommend that students read at least 20 minutes per day. We also recommend that students engage in learning activities 20 minutes per day, at least 3 days per week during the summer.
Use the grade level links to find activities for your student. Students should practice skills learned during the 2020-2021 school year as well as challenge themselves with practice for the 2021-2022 school year.
