CIRCLE assesses student progress in health and wellness, language and communication, emergent literacy reading and writing, and mathematics. It is administered as part of the TEA prekindergarten progress monitoring requirements three times during the year.

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is an assessment of student ability, also called aptitude or student potential for learning, and provides insight into students' readiness to demonstrate creative problem-solving skills and learn in different situations and learning environments. CogAT is administered to all 1st and 3rd graders, and the data is used to help teachers identify specific strategies for differentiating instruction for students based on their strengths and weaknesses, as well as to identify students for special services.

NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Growth assessments measure student achievement and growth, what students know and how they are growing. The purpose of assessing is to provide students, parents, and teachers data that informs instruction, including individual student achievement data, individual and class growth data, and small group instruction recommendations. MAP is administered three times a year in various subjects.

The ERB Writing Assessment Program (WrAP) is given to 4th, 7th, and 11th graders during the school day. Students produce a writing sample in response to a writing prompt. Stimulus-based prompts ask students to read a passage or passages, then respond to the prompt using information found in the stimulus passage(s). WrAP is administered in two writing periods on two consecutive days. In the first period, students receive time to read and analyze stimulus text passages that will inform the development of a rough draft for their writing. During the second period, students produce a final draft of their writing that they began during the first period. Student responses are hand scored and results are reported compared to national, independent school norms.
The State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) is a state-required assessment designed to measure the extent to which students are able to apply the knowledge and skills defined in the state standards, the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills).

The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) is designed to assess the progress that Emergent Bilingual (EB) students make in learning the English language. It is required for K-12 EB students in four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams are standardized exams designed to measure how well students have mastered the content and skills of a specific course. HPISD students enrolled in AP classes are required to take the AP exam at the end of the course.

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. Students can sign up to participate in the ASVAB with their school counselor.
