Grade 1 Summer Work
Below is a list of some of the most pivotal skills your child learned this past school year. To help your child be successful in math next year, he or she should practice these skills over the summer.
Count to 120 starting at any number (backwards and forwards)
Fluently add and subtract within 10
Add and Subtract within 20 (Counting on, Making 10, Counting back, Counting up/Subtraction)
Determine the unknown number that makes an equation true for addition and subtraction- ie 8 + ___ =11 or ____ - 7 = 3 (Number Bonds)
Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones.
Understand the meaning of an equal sign (the same amount)
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve one-step word problems.
