5th Grade Curriculum: What to Expect!

HMH Into Reading is a comprehensive, research-backed reading curriculum designed to cultivate strong readers and writers. It focuses on building knowledge, developing foundational reading skills, and fostering close reading and critical analysis through engaging literature. The program incorporates a structured literacy approach, emphasizing knowledge building, stepped-out foundational skills lessons, and interactive whole-class instruction. It also utilizes data-driven differentiation and robust assessment tools to support student growth and inform instruction. 

Using the NYSed Math Modules, we will be covering:

6 Modules that cover:  place value, multi-digit whole numbers and decimal fractions, addition and subtraction of fractions, multiplication and division of decimals and fractions, volume, area, and problem solving with coordinate planes!

Using the Science21 Curriculum, we will be covering the following themes:

Unit 1: Space Systems

Unit 2: Structures and Properties of Matter

Unit 3: Earth’s Systems

Unit 4: Energy in Organisms and Ecosystem

Using the NYSed Curriculum supported by PNWBoces, we will be covering the following themes:

6 units include; New Worlds Rising, The Western Hemisphere, European explorers, Geography in the Western Hemisphere, Economics, and Cultural Diversity.
