Chapter 12 Goal

In this chapter you will learn about how America's economic transformation in the early 1800's was linked to dramatic changes in transportation networks. Construction of roads, canals, and railroads led to the expansion of markets, facilitated the movement of peoples, and altered the physical landscape. We will explore the rapid expansion of roads, canals, and railroads from 1830-1860. We will also learn about the Industrial Revolution, which began in Britain in the late 1700s, manufacturing was often done in people's homes, using hand tools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special-purpose machinery, factories and mass production.
