Exploring Georgia's Inner Coastal Plain
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST
All three advisory classes went on separate adventures today! Students worked hard on gathering information and content for their projects after the trip. After we get back to campus, each advisory class will be presenting on their trip experience and the knowledge they learned!
Steele’s Advisory
Mrs. Steele’s advisory traveled to Plains, GA to learn about the life and legacy of former President Jimmy Carter. We explored Plains main street, the Depot, Billy’s Service Station, and Plains High School, which has been converted to a beautiful museum highlighting the life of Jimmy Carter. We loved visiting the Carter Boyhood Farm, where we were able to experience Jimmy Carter’s childhood. The farm is still an active farm and we were able to pet mules. We loved learning that the eggs from farm chickens get sent to Jimmy Carter every morning to make his scrambled eggs! A trip to Plains isn’t complete without visiting The Big Peanut! Check out some photos of our day below!
Bainbridge’s Advisory
Ms. Bainbridge’s advisory had a packed day at Andersonville National Prisoner of War Museum. We explored the site and learned about the lives of the 13,000 men who were imprisoned and died here. We are honored by the sacrifices that these men made for freedom. We walked through the Andersonville National Cemetery as well, where other veterans are honored, including Ms. Bainbridge’s grandfather. The weather was perfect for a day spent outside! We ended the day with delicious tacos at Taco Rey. Check out some photos of our day below!
Schreiner’s Advisory
Ms. Schreiner’s advisory traveled to one of Georgia’s seven natural wonders: Radium Springs Gardens. Although part of the park was closed due to flooding, we loved learning about the science and history of the springs. We then traveled to the Flint Riverquarium where we learned about the native species and unique ecosystems of the southeastern United States. We saw many critters like alligators, snakes and snapping turtles. The highlight was bringing the science to life with a hands-on experiment! Check out some photos of our day below!
We are all back at Florence Marina State Park and are resting up for our big day tomorrow! Even though we were separate for only a day, we were thrilled to see each other and are excited for our day together tomorrow.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND
We started our day at Providence Canyon, or Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon.” We were shocked to see massive gullies as deep as 150 feet that were caused simply by poor farming practices during the 1800s. We had a blast exploring the deep canyons.
After lunch, we ventured to Kolomoki Mounds State Park, the oldest and largest Woodland Indian site in the southeastern United States. We walked to the top of Georgia’s oldest great temple mound, standing 57-feet high. Inside the park’s museum, we saw numerous artifacts and learned about indigenous life.
We going to end the day with a pizza party back at Florence Marina State Park. We can’t wait to experience Pasaquan tomorrow!
