About us
The Lanier Band Program is more than just a band class. It offers students hands-on experience that teaches the basic performance skills needed to play in school instrument ensembles. It also teaches students necessary life skills, such as responsibility, respect for others, effective preparation, problem solving, caring, communication, risk taking, personal accountability, punctuality, organization, and self-assessment.
Mr. Hernandez
Mr. Hernandez is an amazing band director. He got his associates degree at the Del Mar university, his bachelor's degree in music education at Texas tech, and his master's degree of trumpet performance at the University of Houston.
He's played at churches, synagogues, and weddings. He also performed at the Houston Symphony and he is currently performing with the Magnolia Brass Band. He started teaching in high school and started at Lanier in 2014. He started to teach because he likes to 'pay it back' to everyone.
Some advice he would offer to people coming into band or wanting to join band is to, research the instruments to find the one for you and to learn your scales as fast as you can because they're the key to succeeding.
One interesting fun fact about him that not many people know is that he's raised a vulture, python, boa constrictor, opossum, and a goat that thought it was a dog!
Mr. Hernandez has done it all and hopes you join band.
