The convention is open to all tenants and homeless New Yorkers who are committed to the struggle for housing as a human right. We will vote on our proposed strategy and platform for 2024. Only organizations that are members of Housing Justice for All are eligible for voting on our platform.
We will accept amendments to our platform until December 10th at 9:30 AM. Any amendments can be sent to info@housingjusticefoall.org
Amendments should be substantive, not language or copy-editing!
In order to be accepted for debate, amendments must be co-signed 5 other HJ4A base-building organizations
The HJ4A Steering Committee may accept amendments as "friendly" -- meaning that we will not have to debate them.
We will debate and vote on the amendments, followed by the entire document as amended.
Voting will only be open to members of HJ4A organizations with a base of organized tenants.
Each member organization will receive a number of votes equal to 2 times the number of chapters they organize in New York State. These delegates will vote to adopt our 2024 strategy.
Each organizational voting delegation will identify a chair for the delegation who will be responsible for:
Voting on behalf of the organization OR
Distributing the voting assignments within their organization
Delegation chairs will be assigned the number of unique codes as their voting allocation.
Delegates and/or chairs can use these codes to vote using OpaVote and we will have tech support on site to assist with voting.
HJ4A is not responsible for your organization’s internal democracy! We will assign each chair votes, and it is up to the chair to make sure that those votes are submitted in a way that reflects the tenant-and-homeless New Yorker base of the organization.
Advocacy organization members (TenantsPAC, Legal Aid, Community Service Society, etc) may also attend and participate in the workshops, discussions, and shape debate. However, they will not be assigned voting rights.
