As part of their future planning, students in grades 9-12 are permitted to conduct job shadowing without penalty to their daily attendance. Freshman and sophomores are allowed two days each school year, and juniors and seniors are allowed four days each year.
Shadow Criteria:
Students must make arrangements prior to college visits and career shadowing (ex. appointments with the admissions office)
The deadline for using career shadow days will be April 30
We recommend visiting colleges or shadowing on scheduled days off (ex. Parent/Teacher conference days, winter break, Martin Luther King Day, or spring break)
Students are required to complete all assignments missed during the visit in accordance with the HSAT attendance policy
Students must submit written proof of attendance on official college or business letterhead proving their visit that includes date and time of visit/shadow, and contact information of person met with.
*Failure to follow college visit and career shadowing criteria will result in the absent hours being considered UNEXCUSED and added to the student’s yearly total.
