Big Sib Activity Fund
Big Sib Activity Fund
Horizons for Youth is excited to offer the Big Sib Activity Fund — a new way to support fun, enriching 1-on-1 outings between mentors and mentees.
We hope this helps make meaningful connections more accessible and affordable for our Big Sibs.
Terms & Guidelines:
Activity must be discussed with and approved by your Little Sib’s parent/guardian
Requests must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance of the planned outing
Fund is intended for admission costs to classes, workshops, museums, events, etc.
Payment options: HFY can either pay a vendor directly or provide a prepaid VISA card
Each individual request may not exceed $200
For requests related to school supplies or personal needs, contact your Program Manager or Emma

Horizons for Youth is partnering with Chicago Mystery Co. for an unforgettable afternoon of mystery, intrigue, and teamwork! This interactive theater experience brings you right into action of a thrilling Jewel Heist.
Think Murder Mystery Dinner Party—but instead of solving a murder, you’ll help crack the case of a daring gem robbery! Come ready to investigate clues, uncover secrets, and solve a lighthearted "crime" together.
Perfect for students and mentors who love storytelling, puzzles, and a little friendly competition. Don’t miss your chance to become a detective for the day!

Get ready for an afternoon of teamwork and fun! Join us for HFY + KidStrong’s Parent, Mentor & Student Team-Building Workshop on Saturday, November 8, 2025, hosted at KidStrong Elmwood Park (1704 N Harlem Ave, Elmwood Park, IL).
This interactive session is all about helping Big Sibs, Little Sibs, and families strengthen communication, build trust, and grow together through engaging team activities led by KidStrong coaches. It’s a great way to connect, collaborate, and cheer each other on!
Parking is available on site, and we’ll be providing food for all participants.
Come ready to move, laugh, and bond—we can’t wait to see you there!

Each year, Horizons for Youth takes our 12th Graders out for a special Shopping Day to help them build a professional wardrobe for their next big steps—whether that’s college admissions or scholarship interviews, job interviews, or their first campus events. Big Sibs are invited to join their Littles for a fun, confidence-boosting day of shopping, style advice, and celebration as our seniors prepare for life after high school.

1-on-1 Tracking
1-on-1 Tracking
All Big Sibs are required to track any 1-on-1 events that they complete with their Little Sib. Any activity that helps to build your connection with your Little Sib is considered a 1-on-1, we've copied a few examples below:
In-person, socially distanced outings: Going on a walk, playing basketball in the park, cooking/baking together
Virtual Connections: Zoom/Facetime calls, virtual cooking competition, Netflix watch party, video gameplay
Please feel free to lump all virtual connections (texts, phone calls, video calls, etc.) that occur across the month together in a single submission
School Events: sports games, science fairs, plays/concerts
Big Sibs are asked to log their 1-on-1 activities using the form below. Make sure to submit your 1-on-1 activities before the last day of the month .
