Big & Little Sibs will have a chance to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a fun outing @ the National Museum of Mexican Art!
This is an optional, in-person Outing for all Big & Little Sibs. Our team is able to accommodate 50 people for this event- spaces are first come, first served.

Elementary (K-8): Big & Little Sibs will have an opportunity to reflect and commemorate their Summer 2022 with a Summer Memories Scrapbook!
High School (9-12): Big & Little Sibs will have an opportunity to flex their gardening skills and exercise patience by growing their own Bonsai Trees!

Outing: An Afternoon @ Navy Pier

Big & Little Sibs will have a chance to spend an afternoon at Navy Pier! Horizons for Youth will provide attendees with tickets to the Centennial Wheel, the Virtual Rush exhibit, and a lunch.

Elementary Activity Kit: Celebrating Black Space Explorers
Big & Little Sibs will have an opportunity to celebrate Black History Month and learn more about a few Black scientists, astronauts, etc. that have made notable contributions to space exploration with a space-themed Activity Kit.

We will be participating in a Virtual Escape Room! Please come prepared to problem solve and think outside of the box!

High School Outing: Virtual College Tour Activity
This month, High Schoolers and their Big Sibs are encouraged to complete an asynchronous/independent activity together by Sep. 30th. High School Mentor pairs are asked to attend a virtual college campus tour. Afterwards, matches should reflect on the tour and fill out a questionnaire!

Virtual Origami Class (Elementary & HS)

Participants will learn about the cultural and historical significance of writing in America. Students also learn about writing styles, writing habits of authors, and new perspectives on writing—from the practical to the creative.

Elementary Activity Kit
Celebrate March is Reading Month by planning a literary movie night! Big & Little Sibs can reserve an Activity Kit that includes all of the ingredients for a fun screening of a film adaptation from a beloved children's book!
Saturday, Feb. 27th
This month, Horizons for Youth is partnering with a Chicago non-profit to celebrate Black History Month with an hour-long workshop focused on creative expression, poetry, and performance. A Teaching Artist will help Big & Little Sibs cultivate their voices and share their stories while listening and learning from others. Students can expect a process of creative self-discovery and identity-building, along with a whole of fun!
Saturday, Feb. 27th
Tech consulting firm, Kin + Carta, will host a deep dive into the world of app creation and share more about traditional and non-traditional career pathways into the tech field.
Meet Mae Jemison, the first black woman in space! This month's Activity Kit will share more about Mae Jemison's story and also feature a fun Build Your Space Rocket Activity.
