The Bakery that Makes You Wonder!
There’s a bakery in downtown Hopewell that will make you "wanna slap your mama!" Their delicious treats are to die for. The sweets are so moist and chewy it's amazing. Everyone should visit Wonder City Bakery because of its food, customer service, and atmosphere.
You have to try the food at Wondery City Bakery. I tried a slice of pumpkin spice cheesecake and it was delectable! I don’t even like pumpkin spice; that's the crazy part. All of the treats looked savory. None of them looked unpleasant. They had bars with slices of cheesecake all the way to the big cinnamon rolls that caught my eye as they made them go wide. I've never seen cinnamon rolls that big, so I must try them. My teacher got two aloha bars, so that means they're good. Owner Trish Honaker said, “My cookies are the best selling thing because it's the most affordable and people just love cookies!” This bakery is one of a kind because they use as many local ingredients as possible. It gives everything that home feeling, and to me that makes everything taste better. She also uses local jam for her biscuits which is just mind-blowing because she isn't selfish.
Wonder City’s customer service is outstanding! When I walked in, the owner's brother and other customers greeted me. They were friendly. He asked me how my day was going and also answered my questions very nicely. Honaker herself is very sweet and welcoming. She is a very open person. She explained her “employees are tight-knit; all of them have a close relationship,” because she cares about them.” Her employees know that they come to her if they have problems because she cares about real-life situations. This bakery overall is the best small business I have ever been to and let’s not forget that burst of delicious aroma you smell when you first walk in the door!
Another reason to visit Wonder City Bakery is the atmosphere, which is everything! It’s calm and cool. There are beautiful pictures to look at on the wall and soothing music playing in the background. She advertises and promotes small businesses too around her like to benefit them too, not just herself. The racks she has in her bakery are full of homemade things like cards and honey for purchase, which is awesome.

Have you ever come home from school one day as a kid, and walked into the smell of warm cookies being baked in the oven? There’s a family-owned bakery in Hopewell that will reignite those feelings from childhood. Wonder City Bakery (WCB) deserves your business because it gives the community much love and support, values safety, and serves delicious food.
WCB is an establishment that gives back to its community. They order ingredients and shop products locally. Their coffee comes from Blanchard’s Coffee and Carytown Teas, which they brew daily. They source their dairy and eggs from Richard’s Dairy & Creamery and Peterson Family Farm. Not only are they promoting other local businesses, but they are giving several different organizations chances to promote their work and products. By supporting this one local business, you indirectly support several others at the same time.
Today it is more important to stay safe. WCB makes sure their customers are safe going in and out of their facility. If you have ever been to Wonder City Bakery, you will see that it currently, like many other places, requires masks. They make it clear masks should be worn properly. When they had an employee diagnosed with COVID, not only did all of the staff get tested, but they also closed from March 18th-April 7th.
WCB also makes outstanding foods. I have first-hand experience eating a treat at this bakery, and it was amazing. There are so many different choices: muffins, cookies, cakes, scones, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, etc. They have several reviews from the community, and I’d say it's worth the love. Some of the reviews read, “It was the best I’ve had,” “quality was amazing,” “exceeded expectations,” and over 50 more all praising WCB!
WCB is a great local bakery that provides for the community, values safety, and makes delicious food. WCB has a Facebook and Instagram page (@wondercitybakery) that has its location, menu items, about the company, and more. Eating from WCB was a great experience. I felt as if I was coming home from school once again. Be sure to check them out! For any more questions, call WCB at (804) 451-6821.

Have you ever eaten a brownie with dark chocolate chips? The first brownie like that I ever experienced wasn’t from Starbucks or Walmart; it was from a local spot in Hopewell. Wonder City Bakery is a small business worth supporting because they make delicious food, support their community and offer some things big businesses can’t.
Everyone should try Wonder City Bakery because they make delicious food. Their brownies are so extravagant you will want to buy more right away. Their cinnamon rolls are the most popular item in the store at this time. Trish Honaker, who owns and runs the bakery, said people love them because “they’re huge!” They have cookies available in many different flavors to choose from including chocolate chip. Wonder City Bakery also has cheesecake that comes in many flavors.
Wonder City Bakery deserves your business because they support the Hopewell community. They buy from other local businesses which conserve energy, resources. and packaging materials because the supplies travel fewer miles to get to them. Think about how much of the stuff on the shelves at national chains is made in China, India, and Bangladesh. That’s not the case at Wonder City, where they get their eggs from Peterson Family Farm and their milk from Richland Dairy and Creamery.
A final reason to be a Wonder City Bakery customer is they offer something unique that big businesses can’t. They use very high quality ingredients, from real butter to premium chocolate. They create items in a quality that you often don’t get at national chains with hard work and short lists of quality ingredients that don’t include chemical preservatives. Anyone who’s tried cookies from both Walmart and Trish’s bakery can taste the difference.
If you’ve never been to Wonder City Bakery, you’re missing out. Find them at 245 E Broadway #2, in downtown Hopewell. Check out their website at wondercitybakery.com. Orders can be called in ahead at (804) 451-6821. They post their menus each day they are open on Facebook and on Instagram at @wondercitybakery. They are open Wednesday through Friday from 9 AM- 2 PM, and Saturday from 9 AM- 1 PM. You won’t regret your decision to pay them a visit.
