About the Authors

Emily Wolfe

Is a Junior at Hope College, studying communication and women's and gender studies. Emily is planning to attend graduate school in Ireland in a few years to earn her MA in peace studies. For this project, she researched and learned about Elizabeth Peratrovich, a Native American positive peacemaker of the 20th century.

Elena C. Galano

Is a Senior at Hope College, studying Women's and Gender Studies and Communication. Elena will be continuing her work in justice and activism by working for the Youth Volunteer Corps, an organization dedication to the education and empowerment of teens through community service and social justice. For her project, she researched Coretta Scott King, a prominent activist and figure in the Civil Rights Movement.

Denise Ruiz

Peyton Steensma

Is a senior at Hope College, majoring in Sociology with a minor in Peace Studies and Social Justice. Peyton plans to be involved in a non profit organization that works to transform communities through ethical food consumption, growth, and distribution. For this project, she researched the life and work of Gwen Zoharah Simmons and her presence in the Civil Rights Movement.

Grace Stevenson

Is a freshman at Hope College, double majoring in History and Biblical Studies with a double minor in Youth Ministry and Spanish. Grace plans to attend seminary after college and go into youth ministry. For this project, she researched Diane Nash and her influential work in the lunch counter sit-in movement in Nashville during the Civil Rights Movement.

Haley Galloway

Is a sophomore at Hope College, majoring in history with minors in political science and women's and gender studies. Haley plans to study law after college and eventually work for a nonprofit organization that deals with social justice reform. For this project she researched Ella Baker, a civil rights activist that played an important role fighting for racial justice during the American Civil Rights Movement.
