PORTFOLIO ASSIGNMENT #1 - GESTURAL INTRODUCTIONS

FINAL DUE DATE: MonDAY, September 8th by midnight VIA MOODLE

ASSIGNMENT:  Draw the following timed gestures (34 Total) using objects which introduce me to who you are. Remember that gestures are fluid, capture energy and essence. They are fast and are not concerned with detail, but instead are concerned with capturing general information about the object. The goal is to get as much concise information about the object on the page as possible in the limited time that you have.

ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATIONAL LINE DRAWINGS (4 Drawings Total)

• Four 10 Minute Gestures

GUIDELINES:

• Drawings should take up the ENTIRE page (see demo video)

• Each gesture should include the axis line and should be fluid, consistent, and NOT concerned with detail.

• Write the time limit on the corner of each drawing.

• Each drawing should be of a different object.
  
  

MATERIALS:

• Vine Charcoal

• Newsprint

• Plethora of different objects - medium sized, ranging in texture and complexity

• A Timer

DEFINITIONS:

Axis Line: An imaginary line that extends through the core of the center of a form.

Gesture Drawing: A quick spontaneous drawing capturing the energy and essence of a form. Provides all of the necessary elements of a form in a concise manner, and looks to provide both interior and exterior information.
