On 20th September 2021 we held a Careers Early Career Teacher Day for those who haven't yet secured a permanent job and were interested in learning more about what headteachers may be looking for, how to maximise job opportunities and the importance of resilience.
In the afternoon there were opportunities to partake in mock interviews and advice clinics, provided by our Careers Team, some of the fantastic agencies we work closely with and NASUWT.
Zoom recordings from last year's sessions are available to view below. You'll need your Hope ID and Password to log in.

On 9th May 2022 our careers team hosted a Zoom Webinar with ECT Collaborative, offering advice on CVs, personal statement writing and interview techniques.
Early Career Hope Teachers came along to have their job application questions answered and hear about how ECT Collaborative could support early career teachers to find permanent roles and relocate to London and surrounding areas, where there is high demand for ECT positions to be filled.
For support with CVs, personal statement writing and interview techniques please contact careers@hope.ac.uk.

TeachMeets
A TeachMeet is an organised but informal meeting for teachers to share good practice, practical innovations and personal insights in teaching.
Teachers are social people, who like discussing and sharing best practice. Unfortunately, teachers also rarely have the time to do this. When training to be a teacher, you constantly pick up tips from other teachers, you have CPD opportunities and are frequently sent to events—but how do we keep sharing and learning about great practice after this?
If you’ve never been to a TeachMeet before, it is essentially local teachers getting together to share 5–7 minute teaching ideas with each other over a cup of tea and biscuits.
Getting involved in the mini-presentations also allows you to network with other teachers more easily.
What’s great about TeachMeets?
They’re full of quick snippets of ideas and you meet lots of former colleagues who are teaching in other local schools which means you ca network after the presentations. They help you to reflect on your own practice and critically engage with current pedagogical strategies.
On 3rd February, ECTs were invited to join us for our TeachMeet on the theme 'Managing Behaviour for Learning', to give a very brief presentation (5-7 minutes) on how they have been managing behaviour for learning in the classroom, for instance:
What strategies they have used to deal with challenging behaviour in the classroom.
How they've managed low-level disruptive behaviour.
What the main challenges have been and how they have sought to improve behaviour for learning in the classroom.
What can be done to encourage high standards of pupil behaviour.
How they are adapting their teaching to support those pupils for whom behaviour is a challenge.
We were joined by Lisa Cunliffe, from St Helens Behaviour Improvement Team. Lisa has a wealth of experience in supporting and training to promote good behaviour within schools, as well as directly working with children and young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties through individual, group and whole class interventions. Access the recording below.
On 12th May, ECTs and Final Year students were invited to join us for our TeachMeet on the theme 'Getting the job and succeeding as an ECT'.
The session was led by Caroline McIntyre who is our Primary ECT lead and who also has five years of experience as a Deputy Headteacher.
The session will covered tips and advice for the whole recruitment process, from the school Walkaround and lesson observation to the interview itself. We also discussed what to expect in the ECT years and how to succeed.
ECTs already in role were welcomed to come along and give a brief presentation about how they found the recruitment process and any tips and advice they had for those going into their ECT year, based on their experience.
Keynote speaker, Caroline McIntyre, Primary ECT Lead
