To turn GenAI from a negative academic integrity issue into a positive experience where students gain experience of using these tools and develop the skills such as critical evaluation there has been a move to look at ways to embed GenAI into the assessment. This also helps to prepare students for the workplace as many employers are now exploiting GenAI tools in their working practices.
The JISC Assessment Ideas for an AI Enabled World toolkit includes some examples of assessment formats where the student is either given material the tutor has generated or uses the tools themselves and then critically evaluates.
In this video Dr Tadgh Blommerde discusses why he encourages his student to Use GenAI in assessments.
University of Oxford identified 10 ideas on using GenAI with students to enhance their learning.
Andrew Taylor, Library Services has produced this quiz which can be used to introduce students to the Academic Practice AI Checklist. Students are asked to decide when AI use is acceptable and there are slides between the questions which give guidance. Please make a copy of the mentimeter, and you can use this within your teaching sessions to identify your students knowledge on generative AI.
Hosted by JISC this hub provides examples of generative AI use shared by other universities and colleges. Themes covered include lesson planning & materials, assessment & feedback, accessibility and AI literacy resources.
The guide is designed to be used by educators and educational developers alike to embed Generative AI into multimodal forms of teaching, learning and assessment. It includes practical steps to take, examples and case studies from others who have worked in this space and uses empirical evidence from surveys and focus groups to ensure the advice provided is built on a solid foundation.
