Mrs. Martinez’s Class
Parents/Guardians:
Welcome back to another school year. My name is Flor Martinez and I will be your child’s math and science teacher this year. I am excited to be a partner in your student’s education. Please read through the following pages and if I can answer any questions, please feel free to contact me directly via email or by telephon
5th Grade: I am your student’s primary teacher and should be considered the direct contact for any student concerns or issues. Mrs. Johnson will be your student’s English Language Arts and History teacher for the 2022 - 2023 school year and will be available for any questions regarding her class.
6th Grade: I will be your student’s Math and Science teacher every day. Mrs. Johnson will be your student’s primary teacher and should be the first contact with any student concerns. However, if you feel you have a concern that directly affects my classroom and/or assignments, please feel free to contact me any time.
CURRICULUM: All students in my classroom will work with the GoMath curriculum that is aligned with the Common Core State Standards. In addition to working with GoMath, we will be building a deeper knowledge of math concepts with the NextGen Program and ST Math (JiJi). The students will also be working with Stemscopes and participating in several science activities that are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.
GRADING Policy
Students' grades will be calculated based on: homework, in-class assignments, various extended projects, participation/planners, and assessments.
● Students who do not maintain a ‘C’ average or have 3 or more missing assignments will be disqualified from participating in weekly sporting events and/or school activities.
● Being punctual and daily attendance is important for students to achieve their credit for their “warm-ups” which are done within the first ten minutes of class. Tardies will affect their participation from the end of the year incentive parties and trips. See Student Handbook.
● Students who have missed multiple days within a school week may be disqualified from that Friday’s sporting event.
● Late assignments will only be accepted if the student was absent and has made prior arrangements with the teacher. All other late assignments must be turned in by Friday of that week with a 10% deduction.
TECHNOLOGY AGREEMENT:
See Student Handbook.
ASSIGNMENTS/HOMEWORK
Homework will be assigned based on the student’s daily completion of in-class assignments.
All assignments are due regardless of absentee status. If you are unable to attend class due to illness or quarantine, the assignments will be available online on their Google Classroom and will need to be completed and submitted in a timely manner. See teacher for specific instructions.
All homework should be returned the following day, unless otherwise stated.
Failure to complete weekly assignments will result in disqualification of sporting events or current school incentives. Refer to Game Days on page 3 in the Student Handbook.
We use Google Classroom for all of our assignments unless they are given a worksheet for homework.
Parents have access to Google Classroom and should be used to monitor your child's progress.
