August:
Introduction Lesson: Minute Meetings–All students will briefly talk with Counselor individually, to share about self, family, friends, how year is going, and plans for the future.
Learning Targets: I can share my thoughts and feelings. I know who my counselor is and know how to get help if needed.
September:
Debug System: All students will learn and practice the 5 steps of the Debug System (Ignore, Walk Away, Ask Friendly, Ask Firmly, Get an adult for help)
Learning Target: I can use the 5 steps of the Debug System to solve problems when peers "bug" me.
A Bug and a Wish: All students will learn and practice "A Bug and a Wish" ("It bugs me when _________, I wish you would __________).
Learning Target: I can use A Bug and a Wish when peers "bug" me.
Conflict Resolution Steps: 3-5th Grade will learn and practice 7 steps of Conflict Resolution (1. “I feel __________ when you __________.” 2. “I want __________.” or “I wish __________.” 3. “What I hear you say is __________.” 4. Name some ideas to help solve the conflict. 5. “Let’s agree to…” 6. Apologize if needed. 7. Shake Hands and end the conflict.
Learning Target: I can use and practice the 7 Conflict Resolution Steps.
October/November:
My Go-To People: All students will learn about and name their own Go-To People. Your Go-To People are the people in your life that you know you can trust to keep you healthy, safe and happy.
Learning Target: I can name my own Go-To people.
Making Healthy Choices: All students will learn about what healthy choices are and ow to make safe choices.
Learning Target: I can name how I will stay safe and healthy in my life.
December:
Bullying: All students will learn about what bullying is. They will also learn about upstanders (standing up to bullying) and bystanders (standing by and not doing anything).
Learning Target: I can define bullying. I can define upstander & bystander and know the importance of standing up for others when bullying is occurring.
