To Add or Subtract Fractions you need Common Denominators (Same Sized Parts)
Adding or subtracting different sized parts is like adding for subtracting different kinds of fruit.
3 oranges + 2 apples = ??????????? Nope, not going to work.
So with fractions you have to make them the same sized parts (kinda like making same kinda fruit)
To get the same sized parts you can break apart your parts (decompose) or you can put together some parts (compose). No matter how you choose to do it you have to have the same sized parts before you can add or subtract fractions.
Operations to help you:
Once you have same sized parts you add the numerators and keep the denominator the same.
Think of the denominator like the label (it labels the size of the parts).
3 oranges + 2 oranges = ?
3 Fourth + 2 Fourths = 5 Fourths...
BUT THAT IS IMPROPER!!!!
So rename it to a Mixed Number (see how below).
