Join a Crew and become an integral part of Hono Theatre!
Here at Hononegah Theatre, we are proud to offer several crews, each run almost entirely and independently by students. Being a crew member doesn't just mean "helping behind the scenes." Our crews literally make each show run smoothly and ensure that each run is a successful one.

Stage Management
The positions of Stage Manager (SM) and Assistant Stage Managers (ASM) are crucial to the efficiency and efficacy of each show. SMs and ASMs oversee the rehearsal process, often assisting the director with various tasks and reminding the cast and production team of all the moving parts that are required for a specific scene, song, or dance number. They are also the ones who "call the show" from our booth at the back of the PAC house. Here at Hono Theatre, we usually have one SM and two ASMs per show. During runs of each show, the SM is positioned in the booth and the ASMs are positioned backstage (one stage left and one stage right).

Lighting
What good is a play or musical if you can't see what's happening? It sounds simple, but that's what lighting is all about! Each production requires different lighting effects and, therefore, different lighting instruments are often needed. If you join this crew, you'll learn how to hang and focus lights, tackle general maintenance on lighting instruments, pull different gels and gobos (textures) for specific lighting cues, learn how to program lighting cues into the light board, and much more!

Sound
Our sound technicians work tirelessly to help create an immersive atmosphere for all of our shows. Not only are they responsible for keeping track of the wireless mics the actors wear and ensure they work properly; they also design and implement unique cues and soundscapes depending on the specific needs of each production.

Props & Costumes
The Props & Costumes (P&C) crew, overseen by Mrs. Beard, pulls, sews, or otherwise builds the costumes and properties for each of our productions. If you join this crew, you'll learn to communicate with the director about their vision for what each character should look like. You'll help with measuring actors for costume fittings, pulling and/or building various costume pieces, as well as finding hand props and stage props for each show!

Fly Rail
If you've ever attended a live performance and wondered just how so much scenery can fit on the stage at different points throughout the show, well, the answer is...it flies in from above the stage! Located backstage right in Hononegah's PAC is the Fly System, a series of ropes and weights used to "fly" scenery in and out of scenes during a show. Fly crew often works in conjunction with Lighting, as different "electrics" need to be accessed to hang and focus instruments. If you join this crew, you'll learn how to operate the Fly System and become a key role in making the magic for each show come to life!

Dramaturgy
A Dramaturg's job is to become an expert on the historical and social context of the production. Typically, they ask the director if there's anything specific they should investigate. They also spend a lot of time doing independent research, sitting in on rehearsals as a valuable resource when questions arise, and they design a visual presentation in the PAC lobby for audience members to learn more about the show!
