Students in 7th grade Art I start off the semester learning how to create bubble and block lettering with style! We discuss how to plan, block out, and arrange letters in a visually interesting way. After adding letters, students add images to their drawing to represent their interests, hobbies, and favorite things! We also teach a new skill by adding a drop shadow to our letters making them appear 3D. Check out these awesome examples...
After warming up with our name drawings, students are moving on to learn the 7 Elements of art and use these elements to create a variety of artworks representing those elements. Students are able to pick the subject matter of their choice for this project. This one subject is transformed using different materials and methods of construction, which challenges students to not only draw, but also paint, collage, shade, and assemble thier artwork in a long booklet format.
In our ceramic unit, students explore vessels and ceramic history from all over the world. We learn about how many countries use ceramics for different purposes including, functional, sculptural, and religious purposes. We answer questions like; where do we see ceramics in todays world and can a ceramic piece have more than one purpose? Then, students will learn specialized ceramic vocabulary and how to use clay to create their own ceramic piece.
