Holy Spirit Spartans

Boys Soccer

Welcome to the Homepage of the Spartans Boys Soccer Team!

I am thrilled to have you joining the Boys’ Soccer team here at Holy Spirit High School.  For those of you who may not know, my name is Sean Matteo and I am the Head Coach of the soccer team.

I am a native of Pitman, NJ where I played for Pitman High School from 2005-2009. During my career at Pitman, I lead the Panthers in scoring my senior year and was named First Team Tri-County Conference and Second Team SJ.  After graduating from Pitman, I attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick where I joined the Men’s Soccer team as a goalkeeper. I graduated in 2014 earning a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and psychology. During my time with the Scarlet Knights, I earned American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. Since graduating, I have played with the Ocean City Nor’easters reserves squad and, most recently, played for Phoenix SC in the United Soccer League of Pennsylvania. While with Phoenix, I featured in many first team matches including playing in multiple state cup games and was on the roster for Phoenix’s Lamar Hunt Open Cup qualifying run.

Since 2014, I have been seen on the sidelines at Pitman High School as the Head Girls Soccer Coach from 2015-2017, at Holy Spirit High School as the Head Boys Soccer Coach in 2017, at Buena High School as an Assistant Boys’ Soccer Coach in 2018, Absegami High School as an Assistant Girls Soccer Coach in 2019 and the Head Boys Soccer Coach from 2020-2022.  Outside of coaching high school soccer, I am the Head Coach of a youth team for SJEB South and regularly trains local goalkeepers in my spare time.

I currently hold a National D License from US Soccer along with many certifications through United Soccer Coaches and the National Federation of High Schools.  In the summer of 2023, I will be pursuing my National C License through US Soccer.

This website includes a lot of pertinent information for the coming season and how the program will be run.  Please look over it thoroughly as it should explain many concerns you might have in regards to playing this year.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at my email address found below.

Once again, welcome to the program and I look forward to seeing you this summer as we start what looks to be a promising season!

Sincerely,

Sean A. Matteo
