We know that first class Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance will prepare our students to aim for and gain access to the very best apprenticeships, college courses, university education and employment that is available by helping them to make impartial, informed, balanced and appropriate decisions about many key areas of their future development, progression and career pathways. CEIAG at Holyhead School is completely impartial and is delivered in an objective and balanced manner by all staff so that each student receives the opportunity to explore potential pathways. CEIAG is delivered across the curriculum and through our bespoke Career Days. Holyhead believes that working with outside agencies is an invaluable part of the CEIAG curriculum and will, therefore, offer all students the chance to meet with employers and other opportunity providers either in school or on visits.

Director of Careers EducationThe Director of Careers Education, Sandra Jones, will ensure students receive personalised and appropriate impartial guidance form a trained Independent Careers Adviser as well as review and evaluate the effectiveness of the overall careers programme. She is responsible for creating and maintaining the business links that will ensure students fully understand the world of work. Review will take place annually as the destination statistics are produced and will look at the range of opportunities accessed by students as well as the feedback from students, parents and employers involved in the delivery and uptake of the careers programme. The next full review is scheduled for November 2019. By 2020 Holyhead aims to achieve the Quality in Careers Standard Award accredited through Prospects Services Ltd.

Careers entitlement
All students in years 8-13 are entitled to:
- find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
- hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events;
- understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.
Aims of CEIAG at Holyhead School
- To equip students with the necessary decision making skills about future progression and their destination when they leave Holyhead School
- To ensure all Premium students receive further impartial and independent guidance from an external Careers Advisor.
- To ensure students are well equipped for the next stage of their education, training or employment.
- To ensure students are tracked beyond Holyhead School and that they do not become NEET (not in education, employment or training).
- To ensure all Year 11 students have at least one post-16 pathway guaranteed when leaving Holyhead School.
- To ensure students have a positive experience of CEIAG.
- To keep up-to-date with new careers emerging from technological advances.
- To understand how the ‘world of work’ works.
- To decrease the possibility of students making incorrect transition choices.
- To give opportunity for maximum exploration of future careers.
- To provide students with current information on courses at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 and which courses are available when they move on to further education
