Day 5 was spent immersed in the rich natural and historical treasures of the surrounding area and began with a visit to Santiago, Monterrey, México, which has been recognized as one of many Pueblos Mágicos throughout Mexico. Pueblos Mágicos are towns recognized by the Mexican government for their “magical” qualities, whether that be their astonishing beauty, rich history, or extraordinary legends. The historical buildings and beautiful views were definitely "magical" and helped the group understand even more deeply that Mexico is a country full of cultural, geographical, and historical richness.
After leaving Santiago, the group made their way through a scenic drive to a nearby waterfall, Cola de Caballo. An abundance of recent rain made for a spectacular visit in which every member was sprayed by the waterfall while enjoying the sites and sounds of God's creation.
Most members chose to walk to the waterfall
But one member of the group took the opportunity to take a horseback ride to the waterfall
On the way from Cola de Caballo back to the city, the immersion group stopped at another natural attraction where locals often relax and enjoy nature: La Cueva de la Boca (lovingly known as "Bat Cave" for the many bats that can be seen hanging around inside and flying in and out).
After a busy day of sightseeing and enjoying nature, the immersion group ended the day with a relaxed dinner at the rectory. All local CSC religious joined for the meal - Holy Cross priests and sisters living in the area as well as a few aspirants who had traveled from South America to learn more about the CSC charisms and religious formation process while they spend time in discernment. It was a lovely evening of fellowship and the last day in Monterrey!
