Remember, housing in the UK is called accommodation. If you need to reach out to the university about academic or other accommodations, be sure to refer to them as disability support in order to avoid confusion.
Single-semester students:
Housing for students may include on and off-campus options, with both ensuite and shared bathrooms.
We require you to apply for on-campus accommodations. Allocations are subject to availability.
All accommodation is self-catered. You can buy groceries from local supermarkets, including the Co-op on campus. Kitchens are shared and come equipped with kitchen appliances. If you don’t fancy cooking, there are plenty of places to eat on campus or in Brighton with a variety of restaurants to suit every taste.
You will receive an email with details of how to apply from the University of Sussex. Each semester has a deadline. If you have missed the deadline and struggling to find accommodation, contact the Sussex Abroad team to check if they can help you with housing.
Year-long students:
Students studying for the academic year are guaranteed university-managed accommodation.
Our student accommodation includes a mix of standard ensuite and shared bathroom residences. You can choose to live in one of nine campus residences or experience life in the city by living in a university-owned flat.
We require you to apply for on-campus accommodations.

There is no meal plan for purchase at the University of Sussex. Instead, you can pay-as-you-go for cafes and cafeterias on campus or purchase food from the grocery store. You will not be charged Holy Cross board (i.e., meal plan) on your tuition bill, which is $4,160 per semester for the standard food plan. You should instead plan to use some or all of this budget sourcing your own food during your semester or year away.
How much you spend on food depends on your personal habits. Before you go, do some googling! Figure out the average prices for your favorite foods and make a plan!

You will be supported by our team and Housing services from application to your arrival. Our live-in residential advisor – a Sussex student who will help you when you arrive and with any problems you may have, will be on-hand to help you settle into life at Sussex.
We know that when you arrive in the UK you may feel nervous that you do not know anyone, but you will receive an email invitation to join the private Facebook page for the Summer School, Study Abroad Semester and the Study Abroad Year, so you can talk to students before you arrive.
