1. PRIOR TO DEPARTURE
Complete required steps with InternationalSOS:
1. Download and set up the “IntlSOS Assistance App” and create profile (see app download/instructions on page 2 of International Travel Risk Management and Health Insurance).
2. Add HC IntlSOS number to your contacts (+1) 215-942-8478
3. Check in using the IntlSOS Assistance App upon arrival to your host country and any time you travel to another city.
Submit your flight itinerary to and from your host country:
Save your itinerary as a Microsoft Word DOC or PDF file. From your HC email Google waffle, select the Study Abroad icon to log into your HC online application, and upload your flight itinerary to the Flight Itinerary Upload question.
Register with the U.S. State Department’s Smart Travelers Enrollment Program (STEP):
The Office of Study Abroad requires you to register your stay abroad via STEP so that the U.S. Embassy in your host country knows where to contact you in case of emergencies. If, for example, there is a natural disaster or terrorist attack, the State Department will provide you with the most relevant information on updates and directions. To register, go to https://step.state.gov and “Create Account.” Check off “Privacy Act Info.” Expand and fill out “Account Info,” Traveler Info,” and “Emergency Contact Info. Follow the remaining prompts starting with “Next.”
NOTE: Non-U.S. citizens (international students) should consult with IntlSOS to determine if your home country has a comparable program. If so, you should enroll in it.
2. UPON ARRIVAL IN HOST COUNTRY
If you do not comply with the requirements below, our ability to assist you in a medical, political, or national crisis is severely impaired.
Check in with IntlSOS Assistance App:
You must check in via the IntlSOS Assistance App as soon as you arrive at your host location. This will indicate to the Office of Study Abroad that you have arrived safely to your program destination.
[Although it does not pertain to travel, you are also required to complete and submit the Course Approval Form (CAF) as soon as your courses for the semester are set.]
3. EVERY TRIP OUTSIDE OF YOUR HOST CITY WHILE ABROAD
Check in with IntlSOS Assistance App:
Each time you travel outside your host city, even if it’s within your host country, you must check in via the IntlSOS Assistance App as soon as you arrive. Should an emergency occur in your destination, this will ensure that we can locate you quickly with advice and support.
You must abide by whatever travel restrictions are given to you by Holy Cross and/or by your host institution. Failure to do so may involve immediate dismissal from the program with no refunds, in which case, you may not remain in residence at your host institution and are responsible for making, and paying for, your flight back to the United States. There are no second chances. Take this warning seriously.
