The McAlister Lab is committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of inclusive teamwork. As a lab that is intrigued by and focuses its research efforts on discovering and learning about the differences among organismal life histories, we simultaneously embrace and encourage all of our lab members’ differences. It is these differences that make the living world fascinating and they are what make our lab members unique and that strengthen our research team. We should all strive to make positive impacts on the lives and life histories of ourselves and each other.
The McAlister Lab values a work environment that encourages and enforces: Respectful communication and cooperation, teamwork and participation, the importance of every voice, the value of life outside of the lab, and the positive power of various viewpoints. Research has routinely demonstrated the importance of biodiversity and symbioses in ecological systems and those findings are equally applicable to our own living and working spaces.
All members of the McAlister Lab have a responsibility to treat others with dignity and respect at all times. All members are expected to exhibit conduct that reflects respectful teamwork in the lab, at lab functions on or off-site, online, above ground or underwater, at sea, and at all other MOB Lab events. Lab members who believe they have been subjected to any kind of discrimination are encouraged to seek assistance from the PI or whomever you are comfortable speaking with. Any member found to have exhibited inappropriate conduct or behavior against others will be removed from the lab. It really is quite simple: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
