Diversity & Inclusion

The McAlister Lab is committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity and inclusion. As a lab that is intrigued by and focuses its research efforts on illuminating and discerning the diversity in organismal life histories, we simultaneously embrace and encourage all of our lab members’ differences. It is these differences that make the living world fascinating and they are what make our lab members unique. We should all strive to make positive impacts on the life histories of ourselves and each other.

The McAlister Lab values a work environment built on the premise of diversity and equity that encourages and enforces: Respectful communication and cooperation, teamwork and participation, the importance of every voice, the value of life outside of the lab, and the positive power of diversity. Research has routinely demonstrated the importance of biodiversity in ecological systems and those findings are equally applicable to our own living and working spaces.

Discrimination or harassment of any kind is not tolerated in the McAlister Lab at any time at any location. Lab members who believe they have been subjected to any kind of discrimination are encouraged to seek assistance from the PI or whomever you are comfortable speaking with. Any member found to have exhibited inappropriate conduct or behavior against others will be removed from the lab.
