Rome is amazing. It is a city that generously divulges its layers of history at every turn. But it also thumps and moves with a vibrancy that is totally energizing. Its glorious past is always, literally, present - ancient Roman remains and Baroque-era churches will be constants in your day-to-day landscape - but it is the rhythm and rituals of Roman daily life that will truly make you glad you've chosen this Eternal City as your study abroad home.
Home will be Temple University's facilities adjacent to the Spanish Steps and near to the large, leafy park surrounding the world-famous Villa Borghese. Holy Cross students pursuing a major/minor in Architectural Studies, Art History, Classics, and/or Studio Art may study at Temple Rome, finding themselves especially well placed to explore the city as a classroom, studio, and experiential learning lab, true to Temple's mission. The school's well established footprint and faculty members in Rome mean that the city's rich academic and cultural resources are immediately accessible to Holy Cross students who learn to live independently as quasi-Romans in student apartments managed by Temple University.
Because Rome is so well connected to urban hubs throughout Italy with their own regional networks of public transit, HC students will have ample opportunity to broaden their perspectives on the distinct micro-cultures that make-up this marvelously diverse culture, as well as identify the shared values that bind Italians together.

The vibrant student, tourist, and resident-filled capital city of Italy, Rome is busy, beautiful, international, and abundantly walkable. From the iconic Spanish Steps and Colosseum to the pini romani (Roman pines) and delicate rose bushes dotting the elegant Aventine Hill, Rome offers more city sites and green oases than anyone could visit in a week, let alone a semester or year. Rome appeals to all interests and especially to those visitors willing to look up - not only around. Small windy streets lined with buildings bearing gorgeous architectural detail will suddenly give way to ancient ruins or open piazze (public squares) with running fountains and bustling open-air markets. Thanks to its location and excellent bus/train connections, Rome is a hub for travel throughout Italy (Naples, Florence, Venice, Perugia, and Bologna can be easily reached by train), with quick flights to Sicily and neighboring countries.
