Holy Cross students studying in Bamberg are placed in university housing in a very central location: the Upper Mills Residence Hall. Each student has their own room furnished with a bed, desk, chair, and plenty of closet space. Most linens are provided (we'll go over the fine details in your pre-departure meeting).
As for meals, there is no university meal plan. Instead, Upper Mills is self-catering, which means you will have access to a fully equipped, shared kitchen in which to prepare your meals. While new to you, perhaps, this set-up is common throughout Europe for student housing! Cooking alongside fellow students can be really social and therefore fun - definitely a learning experience, and one of those cultural differences you'll need to lean into.
Because of the self-catering arrangement, HC students are NOT charged a "board" (meal plan) fee for the academic year they study abroad.
Your residence hall is equipped with laundry machines. Need to know more? Ask a Bamberg Student Ambassador.
You can take advantage of university facilities, or join a private gym. But note: your HC study abroad program fee will NOT cover a gym membership while you study in Bamberg.
Since you will not be charged the standard Holy Cross board fee (meal plan), we recommend that you reserve the funds you would have paid at HC for shopping for groceries in Bamberg. Perhaps you will eat out some nights, or not need to cook in your dorm on other nights. We recommend doing some quick googling (check out Numbeo.com!) to get an idea of how much food and drinks cost in Bamberg (and elsewhere in Germany) so you can budget accordingly.
