Fashion. Finance. Great food. These are likely the first ideas that come to mind when you think of Milan, and they're entirely accurate. Milan is a global leader in fashion and most certainly a hub for finance and transnational companies (think: Apple). But what you may not know - because this city so often gets overshadowed by its neighboring cultural powerhouses Florence, Venice, and Rome - is that Milan's historic past is rich, fascinating, and commensurate, its art legendary (Leonardo da Vinci then, street art now), and its architecture wonderfully charming or unbelievably cool, depending on what you're looking at. More to the point for prospective students such as you, Milan is relatively untapped and livable - a city with multiple renowned universities and night life that includes outdoor cafes, bars, and restaurants lining the city's canals little-known to Americans. Beauty is ubiquitous. So are bikes. But have no doubt: Milan's means of public transport (trams, metro, buses, and trains) are clean, reliable, and predictably on time.
As a student of CIEE/Cattolica in Milan, you will experience Italy authentically, becoming familiar with the country through the particular lens of this enormously pleasant, historic, innovation-minded city and its friendly residents. While learning Italian (and more!) from CIEE's dynamic professors, plus enrolling in courses at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore ("Cattolica") in central Milan, you will soon fold seamlessly into the fabric of this city, exploring its streets, canals, museums, shops, and green spaces.

You will purchase a flight to Milan from your 'home' airport. CIEE on-site staff meet you at arrivals and accompany you to the city center for the beginning of Orientation.
Milan is a bustling, vibrant, well-run city remarkably devoid of hordes with cameras in tow. Yes, the Duomo (cathedral) is spectacular, and you will find a fair number of visitors to this site - for good reason! But you will also find life lived authentically in all of Milan's distinct neighborhoods: businesspeople go about their commutes, students ride the Metro to class, kids clutch their parent's hand as they skip to school, and espresso cups "clink" in the cafes. The backdrop for all these quotidian sites is Milano's storied, aristocratic past and present-day progressiveness as sophisticated as one might expect from this international hub.
Did you know? Milan has miles of canals - like Venice and Amsterdam - that you can walk, cycle, and boat along. Its XXX neighborhood is home to the largest community of Chinese in all of Italy. The city houses over 5,000 multinational companies with predominant strengths in the pharmaceutical, food, fintech, and fashion industries. It is also serves as a marvelous launching point for exploration within the grape-soaked region of Lombardy.
