• Students show reactions to text, circle unknown words, and highlight main ideas and key details in a text.

Shared Reading

• Exposing students to higher-level text complexity in whole group

Guided Reading

• Reinforcing and scaffolding effective reading behaviors in small groups, providing children an opportunity to apply what they have learned

Independent Reading

• Students engage in the joy of reading, building stamina to read for duration, and immersed in “just-right books” that capture their interest and employ choice.

Phonics

• Explicit teaching of phonics patterns and hands on student practice
