Show your child that school is important by doing the following things:
- Help your child feel good about their homework (try to keep a positive attitude)
- Establish homework as a priority for your child
- Make sure your child has a quiet place to do homework
- Set a routine for doing homework
- Take a break if you're getting frustrated but don't give up on it
- Contact me if your child is struggling with homework; homework should take no more than 35 minutes of on task time
We expect homework to be...
- Neat and turned in on time
- Completed in pencil unless indicated otherwise
- Completed by the student. At this grade level, it is appropriate for parents to help and double check work, but NOT do the work for the child.
If your child chooses not to turn homework in on time, the following may occur:
- Students may lose recess time to finish work
- A conference may be set up to discuss the problem at hand
Just Think...
These principles are the foundation of good study skills. This is the time to lay and build on these foundations. Children who learn to study and work independently in elementary school have a higher success rate all through school!
