English 9 Description: A foundation English course based on genre, language skills (writing, usage, vocabulary, development, speech, literary analysis and interpretation) using lecture as well as collaborative-based instruction. Units will include, but are not limited to the following: short story, research, mythology, non-fiction, novel, poetry, and drama.
English 9 Philosophy: This course will enable students to actively construct meaning, use written and spoken language to understand and analyze literature and other forms of media. Students master language arts literacy by exploring and interpreting the many dimensions of the language. These skills are the foundation for success in their future career endeavors, as well as their own ability to communicate with one another and function effectively in society.
English 9 Goals: The goals of this course are to encourage students to become 21st Century learners by developing their skills in writing, reading literature, reading nonfiction, researching ideas, and presenting their work to an audience.
