For our project we are focusing on human trafficking. We are raising both awareness and money for this important cause that affects millions every year.
Ashley, pictured on the left, was born and raised in Holliston. She wants to make a difference in our community and now she has that opportunity. Caroline is pictured on the right and is involved in art club and in swimming. She also wishes to make a difference.
Human Trafficking is a big problem in our society today, and with Boston being a trafficking hotspot, we felt it was very important to address this issue. Trafficking is estimated to be a 150 billion dollar industry worldwide, and there are around 40.3 million victims every year.
For our project we are partnering with the organization Bags of Hope, which creates supply bags for at risk women living on the streets of Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
What we have managed to accomplish so far is setting up a date for our bake sale, the money that we make will go towards the organization "Bags of Hope". This organization helps make bags with useful supplies like hygiene products for women, snacks and clothing items for women who have been trafficked and are recovering, along also helping women who are at risk of being trafficked. For our bake sale we've made an information sheet to hand out to students. Our next step in the project is to educate our classmates, and we will either have a speaker come in, or we will find a documentary on trafficking.
We have had to rework what we are planning on doing for the education aspect of our project, and we are still currently working out a plan for it. What we have been thinking however, is that we will incorporate education about trafficking into the Wellness curriculum.
This past Halloween, we held our bake sale in school, and were able to raise over fifty dollars. Recently, we have started a GoFundMe (link below) to help raise even more money. As well, we will be holding a bake sale during the Feeding Hope art show, which will be on December 13th from 5:00-7:30pm. We would love to have as many people as possible donate and go to the show! There is a $5 ticket fee at the door, and the proceeds will be going to the Multi-Service Eating Disorder Association in Newton.
Our goal for the GoFundMe is $1000 and so far we've received $50. We hope if we continue to promote it we will receive more donations. Down below is a link to donate.
