***Attention Juniors and Seniors***There are opportunities available at HPS for students to earn college credit while in high school. Currently HPS offers 10 classes that can be taken for both high school and college credit. For the 2022-2023 school year the classes offered by HNPS are Psychology (3 credit hours) taught by Mr. Kneifl, College Algebra (3 credit hours), Trigonometry (3 credit hours), Analytic Geometry and Calculus 1 (5 Hours), all taught by Mr. Rolfes. Also taught are Advance Biology (4 hours), by Mrs. Stratman, Building Construction (3 hours), taught by Mr. Haselhorst, Personal Finance (2 hours), taught by Mrs. Hochstein as well as English Composition 1 (3 hours) and English Literature (3 hours), both taught by Mrs. Stappert. New this year is American History (3 hours) taught by Miss Lange.
These classes are offered through Northeast Community College in cooperation with Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools at a reduced tuition rate. I would like to note that American History, taught by Miss Lange is through wayne State College. It is offered at the same reduced rate the Northeast Community classes are. These classes are transferable to most 2 or 4 year colleges in our surrounding region. Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are but a couple of examples of schools that will recognize these classes. You should note that the Building Construction class and Personal Finance offered by our school are only recognized by Northeast Community College. Students taking classes for college credit are expected to pay the early college tuition and fees unless they are awarded the ACE scholarship.. See Mr. Kneifl for any questions you may have or for further information.
Many college also offer telecourses and online courses for students looking to get a jump start on their college educations. These classes are recommended for highly motivated, self-disciplined students. See Mr. Kneifl to discuss these opportunities.
