We started our day with breakfast before heading out to the Museum of American History. We got to see fascinating things such as Dorothy’s ruby slippers, Prince’s guitar, and many other pieces of memorabilia in the Entertainment Nation exhibit. We also visited the Gunboat Philadelphia, American Presidency and The First Ladies exhibits. We then went to the Freer Gallery at the National Museum of Asian Art and then had lunch outside. Afterward we walked over to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Everyone was able to go at their own pace through the museum. This of course was a very powerful and moving couple of hours for all of us. After touring the museum, Dalia Davis led a discussion, and we were able to spend some time processing the experience.
We then headed to the Capitol to meet Representative Dean Phillips. Representative Phillips spent over half an hour talking with our students and staff and explaining why and how he became a member of congress. He encouraged our students to get involved in the political process and about how important it is to make their voices heard. He was very gracious and took selfies with all the kids. We went back to the hotel and had a nice kosher dinner from Char Bar before rushing off to the Kennedy Center to see a performance of Sheer Madness. Everyone really enjoyed the show. We took the train back to the hotel to get some rest.
