Thank you for your interest in the Cross-Aged Ranger Mentor Alliance (CARMA).This is an important opportunity to help other students in your community grow and succeed by following your example!
The C.A.R.M.A. Goal
The organization will need at least 25 high school students in grades 10-12 who will participate in an after-school training program to become a “CARMA Coach.” Once trained, the Coaches will be paired with a “CARMA Apprentice” from either the Intermediate or Middle School. The Coaches’ goal is to help their apprentice develop skills like self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, social awareness and relationship skills which would prepare the apprentice to one day become a CARMA Coach themselves.
Responsibilities
Coaches will visit either the Intermediate School or Middle School once a month, where they will lead activities and set a good example for their apprentices. Coaches will also be asked to contact their CARMA Apprentice weekly through email.
What does it take to be a Coach?
You DO NOT need to be perfect! The most important attribute a CARMA Coach should have is resilience. This is the ability to overcome difficult situations and to never give up.
You need to have achieved academic success. This does not necessarily mean you’re earning straight A’s. Success looks different for every student.
You need to have a clean behavior record for at least one year. If you’ve improved your behavior and turned things around, that’s great! If you’ve never had any behavior problems, also great! But, remember, perfection is not a requirement.
You need to have consistent attendance. Your apprentice will be depending on you, so you need to be dependable.
