All AI Use In HJISD Is Guided By Levels
Clearly communicate to students what is allowed in your classroom. AI use may vary by class or assignment, but expectations should always be explicit. Providing clear guidance and an AI Use Description Statement helps students understand boundaries and use AI responsibly.
Level 0 - No AI
Level 1 - AI for Learning
Level 2 - AI for Ideas
Level 3 - AI for Improvement
Level 4 - AI as a Collaborator
*Students may only use AI when explicitly permitted. If no level is provided, AI is not allowed.
Protecting Student Information
Keeping student and staff information safe is a top priority. Always follow district guidelines and FERPA requirements when using AI tools. As a general rule, do not enter confidential or personally identifiable information into AI tools. Even when tools include security protections, practicing safe digital habits helps ensure sensitive information is not shared inappropriately.
AI detection tools are not fully reliable and should not be used as the sole basis for determining academic dishonesty. These tools may produce false positives and incorrectly identify student work as AI-generated.
Concerns about AI use should be addressed using professional judgment, knowledge of student work, and direct conversations with students.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) to complete an assignment, in part or in whole, in a manner that does not align with teacher direction or assignment requirement shall be considered academic dishonesty. Students must follow all expectations regarding the use or non-use of AI and may be required to explain their work and process. Students must disclose AI use when required by the teacher or assignment.
When a student uses AI in a way that does not align with teacher direction or assignment requirements, the teacher will determine appropriate consequences based on the nature of the assignment and the extent of the misuse. Responses may include, but are not limited to, reteaching, revision opportunities, partial credit, or a zero in alignment with district academic integrity guidelines. Repeated or intentional misuse may result in more significant academic or disciplinary consequences in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Teachers should communicate AI expectations using the district AI Use Levels tool.
