Aims
To develop understanding and appreciation of a range of different musical styles.
To develop the skills and knowledge needed to make music; to compose and perform your own pieces and to listen to and understand the music of other composers.
To build confidence as a performer, preparing you for a wide variety of careers and further study opportunities, both in the Arts and in the wider curriculum.
Course Content
The course covers a variety of different areas of study; instrumental, music, vocal music, music for stage and screen and fusions.
Students compose their own pieces, 1 of which is based on these areas of study, the other a free composition.
Students will also develop performing skills on their own instrument or in singing.
Assessment Structure
The course combines a written examination (40%), performance (30%) and composition (30%).
The listening exam takes place at the end of Year 11 and lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes.
During the course, students prepare solo and ensemble performances ready for a performance examination and submit two coursework compositions.
You need to
Enjoy music and be interested in learning about a wide range of different styles.
