Aims

• To encourage an awareness of people and places in your local area and of the wider world - how and why they are changing. The geography curriculum allows for ‘awe and wonder’ and focus on contemporary issues around the World.

• To understand how people and environments interact, the importance of using our environment sustainably and our role in the management of the planet.

• To develop key skills in observation, recording, presenting information, data analysis, interpretation of evidence, decision-making and problem-solving.

Living with the physical environment

Section A: The challenge of natural hazards

Section B: Physical landscapes in the UK

Section C: The living world 

Challenges in the human environment

Section A: Urban issues and challenges

Section B: The changing economic world

Section C: The challenge of resource management 

Geographical applications

Section A: Issue evaluation 

Section B: Fieldwork over 2 days

Main Geographical skills 

Literacy skills, cartographic skills, numeracy skills, graphic skills, evaluative skills and decision making skills.

Assessment Structure

Paper 1: Living with the Physical Environment (35%).

Paper 2: Challenges in the Human World (35%).

Paper 3: Geographical Applications (30%) – a field trip is a requirement for Paper 3. We complete a 2 day residential trip to the coast.

• Be interested in people and other places.

• Be able to find facts for yourself and express your own opinions.

• Have good ICT skills to access up-to-date and relevant information.

• Be concerned about the problems of the constantly changing modern world.
