HOW DO I FIND MY WAY AROUND?
To start with you will have most of your lessons with your tutor group, so you tend to all stay together. You will soon get to know your way around and if unsure you can always ask someone to help you.
You can print a useful room plan by clicking here.
You will normally have five lessons a day each lasting an hour. Most days are as follows:
8.40am Be ready to line up on the Year 7 playground
8.45 – 9.10 Registration/Tutor time
9.10 – 10.10 Period 1
10.10 – 11.10 Period 2
11.10 – 11.30 Break
11.30 – 12.30 Period 3
12.30 – 1.30 Lunchtime
1.30 – 2.30 Period 4
2.30 – 3.30 Period 5
3.30 Home time
To start with, you will be taught with your form group for most subjects, except for PE/Games. You will also be on a half termly rotation between IT, Design and Technology and Food Technology. Your sets in Year 8 for Maths, Modern Languages and English will be decided on the basis of assessed work during Year 7. Most boys do a second foreign language in Year 8 (German or Spanish).
Year 7s have their own dedicated playground area complete with basketball hoops and table tennis tables. Lunchtime is from 12.30 – 1.30pm and new year 7 students are given priority in the lunch queue for the first few days. When the fields are dry, you also have your own dedicated space on the playing fields.
Food can be purchased from the Dining Room or the Pod located on the Year 7 playground.
Homework for KS3 will be set on a regular basis by subject teachers. There are also Homework clubs where staff are on hand if you need help with completing your homework. These are before school and during lunchtime.

There are lots of clubs and activities taking place at HBS before school, at lunchtimes and after school. The new list will be put together near the start of the new term in September, but you can look at the current list of what is on offer here.
If there is a club that is not on offer that you would like to set up we would encourage you to do so - just speak to your form tutor in September who will be happy to advise you further.

Yes we have an extensive reward system in place to recognise and celebrate success in all aspects of school life. Reward points are collected individually that correlate to House points for a student's House.
We also run a House Cup competition where students can earn House points by participating in a variety of House activities and events (sporting and non-sporting) that take place throughout the year.
You can find out more information on our House system website by clicking here.
Trips are an exciting part of HBS with day trips and residential trips taking students all over the world.
These vary from year to year but current examples of trips this year includes Ski Trip to Austria, Sports and Language trip to Paris, History trip to Berlin, Design Technology trip to Munich, Geography trip to Iceland and Physics trip to Houston, as well as closer to home curriculum trips to museums, theatres, and Geography field trips to Norfolk and London.
Most of the time our students all get along well but occasionally there are fallouts, and where this happens we work to close down any conflict or bullying issues as quickly as possible. However, we can only do this if we know about it and we encourage everyone in the school to help us be a “telling school”. We urge students to tell us if someone is being treated badly by others or if things are not right for them, and we can then support and intervene at the earliest opportunity with the help of our Tutors, Heads of Year and Pastoral team. Click here to hear Ms Bahnsen from our Pastoral Team as she explains what to do if you believe you or others are being bullied.
In a recent change to our transition offer we would like to invite both you and your parents/carers the opportunity to visit us ahead of the main transition day.
Further information can be found in your welcome email.
We can't wait to meet you!

HBS is a phone free school. You will be given a Yondr pouch on your first day in September and your Form Tutor will explain how they are used. All phones and other smart devices including watches should be kept locked in your Youder pouch each day.
